Ah I see he doesn't have a pickup, but a mic.Jeez am I blind.Still the effect is the same, it is a lot different than hearing the same thing acoustically, you can't employ the same kind of attacks, if you look at how they're playing and listening this becomes very clear.Of course its entirely possible that he changed his technique and tone over the years, but that isn'ts whats causing this. The same thing happened to me at first.

For those of you who are classical here...You put your pickup in the little wedge on your bridge, it is basically a mic for your violin, attached to a cord that hooks up to an amp. This way, your sound is electrically processed and can be altered by effects on the amp as well, for example I can give my violin reverb or an echo with the amp. However, it picks up any sound around the f holes really, if I tap the violin you can hear it ampedThat is the scratch you're hearing, his bow.

Only if you can ask Stephane Grappelli to play some Paganini Caprices and some of the most difficult Violin Concertos that Menuhin played...then people would understand the difference of jazz and classical music.I admire Stephane Grappelli. He is amazing and has unique color and style to the sound. But it wouldn't match Menuhin's advanced violin techniques.I guarentee that...

I don't think so, it sounds menuhinish, I think he just didn't realize that if you do that with a pickup on your violin it sounds fugly.

it might be cause hes old ive noticed in early recordings of menuhin his vibrato and tone is much different from this.

Very beautiful.

probably u have poor perception to grasp what i have said. What i mean here is both of these maestros sound good to hear even though Menuhin did not actually improvise and match Grappelli. For me they both are as good as other violinists whom I had already mentioned. It does not bother which system of music.

OlymPigs2010, you really have no idea what you are saying.
