I cannot agree. Turn off the picture and you will hear a boring characterless performance. That a conductor of his standing should need a score for Coriolan is pitiful. His antics bear no relation to the subtle and prophetic character of this music, which opened the way to a new era in musical expression using manipulation of the material itself rather melody, harmony or structure. The orchestra could have played it better without him.

Une immense tragédie, très belle interprétation, mais il est indispensable d'avoir entendu et vu Carlos Kleiber diriger cette musique. Munich 1996 avec une quatrième de Brahms et une trente-troisième de MozartDVD DG. EXTRAORDINAIRE. |
