image.And that's how fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld will be celebrating his 70th
birthday - with his very own lookalike bear."Kaiser Karl" - as he's known - has teamed up with traditional
German teddy bear maker Steiff to create the Karl Lagerfeld bear.Steiff Director Martin Frechen says the German-born designer was as hands
on with the cuddly toy as he is with his Chanel couture creations:[Martin Frechen, Steiff Director]:
"I have got to know Mr Lagerfeld as a perfectionist, who grapples
with every detail and knows exactly what he wants and he created this bear
exactly as he wanted it."The bear is made from alpaca and put together by hand at Steiff's factory
in Germany.But as you'd expect from a fashion designer - the clothes are straight from
Lagerfeld's Paris atelier.
"The suit, the clothing - as you'll see on the bear, it's the
details, the tie has a little crystal on it, and the chain at the back of the
trousers. They are the boots that he wears."But those who can't usually afford some Lagerfeld-designed clothes and are
hoping to snap up this limited edition teddy should be warned.The bear comes with an haute couture price tag - of 1,000 euros.
