The Japanese competitors have built higher quality, more fuel efficient, higher resale value, more safe and often times cheaper vehicles than the big three (looking at the overall picture) for the last 10 years straight. That eventually catches up with you... Make all the excuses you want, the entire world realizes (including the companies themselves) that Ford, GM and Chrysler are in the position they are in now because of their OWN mistakes.

Yes poor management. While the big threes foreign competitors were building smaller, more fuel efficient vehicles and investing in new hybrid technology the big three continued to produce big, faster, less fuel efficient SUV's and sports cars. The UAW agreements did screw the big three, but they should have bought out these agreements decades ago. As for the cheap japanese parts... how on earth are these vehicles receiving higher quality ratings if they are made with inferior parts??

It is because of un American bastards like you lil wiki boy, that is the cause of the big three's problem. Go crawl back under your toy turd rock. Your a disgrace. You buy a substandard vehicle and come here and spout things you know nothing about. What a looser.

correct, however they are going in the right direction. coming out with new vehicles which they have already invested millions if not billions into will be coming shortly, and fords -$10B days are history already. I would hate to see it happen but i think they should just let chrysler go. ford and gm are far more beneficial to our economy.

poor management my ass! how could a company compete against imports that can build here w/o hiring the uaw and still import over half their vehicle lineup, where they have cheap child labor and wonderfully cheap chinese and japanese parts. support your country and your fellow american workers wiki. sign the petition at gmfactsandfiction's website. millions of jobs at stake here, more than any one of us can realize.

While Ford is certainly in the best shape out of the big three I certainly wouldn't say Ford is "rapidly turning around."They lost almost $9,000,000,000 in the first half of 2008 alone and their sales are down nearly 20% this year. They all three have a LONG way to go before they are even making money. How do you pay off a loan when you are losing upwards of $10,000,000,000 a year??
jeffac500 (December 31, 1969 at 6:59 pm)
chevy and ford both have new efficient hybrids and electric vehicles only a year or 2 away. chevy and chrysler are in bad shape, they are banking on '09 and '10 vehicles to take off. a loan would easily get gm at least thru a couple more years. not so sure about how chrysler would do. ford on the other hand is rapidly turning around on their own, losing less than $130 million for q3, and has more cash on hand than gm.

Your post has a few false statements. GM doesn't own any of AM General, AM General is a fully independent company. As was previously stated I am unclear on the transmission used in the current HMMWV's.Straight from the AM General website:"Although GM acquired the HUMMER brand, they do not own any part of AM General."Just like I said, GM bought the name Hummer and that is it. AM General is an independent company that still is the sole producer of the HMMWV.

transmission. and the THM400 was the old hydro-style trany. On your $50,000,000,000, Yes Im sure someone could produce them, but why not throw money at someone who has an infrastructure already.. All they need to do is get rid of these unions, and spending money on Viagra LOL.

Hummer is a brand of off-road vehicles sold by General Motors (GM). The original H1 was based on the military High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV, or Humvee). However, the Hummer H2 and the Hummer H3 were based on other, smaller civilian-market vehicles.Hummers were originally built by AM General Corporation, which was formerly AMC Jeep's General Products division. Gm still owns all of AM General. They started using the 4L80E because they wanted an electonically controlled
